In a surprising twist that rewrites the playbook on legacy media and real estate, Canadian icon Mike ‘Wek’ Wekerle has once again made headlines with a bold strategic move. After rescuing the legendary El Mocambo from receivership, Wekerle announced its sale just weeks later. This unexpected pivot signals a transformative shift in strategy: while El Mocambo’s physical building may change hands, the iconic brand, cultural legacy, and media powerhouse behind it are poised for an exciting new chapter.
Mike Wekerle and Jesse Dylan have joined forces to launch H30—a bold new entertainment entity born from the fusion of HANGR3 and El Mocambo Media.
The name H30 is a creative nod to both its origins—HANGR3 + El Mo—and its ambition: like water, it flows, adapts, and fuels life. If H₂O sustains the body, H30 is here to power the culture.
Wekerle, who famously revived ElMo as one of the most electrifying live venues in North America, is now teaming up with media visionary Jesse Dylan, the force behind HANGR3 Entertainment Corp., to build something even bigger. With the shackles of real estate lifted, the two are merging their operations to create a leaner, more agile media and entertainment empire—H30
“This is freedom,” says Wekerle. “We’ve preserved the legend of El Mo, and now we’re unchaining it from the bricks and mortar. We’re about content, culture, and global reach—not property management.”
For Jesse Dylan, the move is perfectly in step with HANGR3’s mission: a platform that gives creators and fans a direct connection—through music, sports, gamification, storytelling, and tech-fuelled distribution. Dylan, a creator himself, having spent his entire career in media and entertainment and following in the footsteps of his famous Father, said, “Growing up in NYC and Malibu and being surrounded by artists and creators, I’ve had a front row seat to the changing topography of the Creator Economy and it’s massive.”
The partnership allows both companies to scale faster, focus capital on content, talent, and technology, and reach global audiences without the overhead of venue ownership. That flexibility will be key as the duo eye strategic acquisitions, original productions, and a slate of live events with built-in global distribution, in a media empire built by two of Canada’s boldest visionaries.
The Creator Economy was estimated at $250B in 2023, expecting to grow to $480B by 2027. *(https://andelek.com/the-
